VOTE411 Program

 I.  General Description

VOTE411.org is the League’s online voter guide. It is committed to ensuring voters have the information they need to participate in every election. VOTE411 covers federal, state, county, and local elections and state ballot propositions.

The success and impact of VOTE411 depend on volunteers from all the local leagues. There are many ways to get involved, including writing nonpartisan race-specific questions for candidates, contacting them to verify their contact information, and encouraging a response to our candidate questionnaire. Other opportunities include testing the website once the guide is published to troubleshoot for errors and omissions and ensure quality control. All of the work is virtual.

The state league promotes VOTE411 across the state, and volunteers are critical to identifying media outlets and obtaining advertising prices. In 2024, we advertised in rural and metropolitan areas through billboards, movie theaters, print and digital media, TV, and radio.

II. Volunteer Commitment

VOTE411 can accommodate your time commitment! For example:

 Short-term

Writing candidate questions early in each election cycle

Testing the published guide for quality control issues

 Medium-term

○ Contacting candidates to encourage them to answer the questions

Typically we contact candidates shortly after we invite them to participate until about a week before the election (3-4 week window)

 Obtaining Initial media/ advertising prices

 Long-term

Soliciting pricing and follow-up for advertising, including phone calls and emails to media publishing contacts, negotiating pricing, placing the ads, obtaining invoices, etc.

Historically, our efforts have focused on the November elections in even-numbered years

   III. Experience/Training Availability

  No previous experience is necessary

Volunteers need access to a computer and familiarity with Google Drive docs and spreadsheets

The state league’s VOTE411 team will hold virtual planning and training sessions and provide tip sheets with helpful information about writing questions, scripts for phone calls, and advertising efforts/direction

  IV. League Membership Requirements

You must be a member to volunteer

All activities are run by volunteers in our communities. We welcome your participation. If you would like to volunteer, send an email to lwvnaz@gmail.com.
